新型コロナウイルス感染第６波の可能性
新規感染者が減少し、日本の各都道府県に出されていた緊急事態宣言やまん延防止等重点措置が全面的に解除されました。新規感染者数が減ったことは大変良い事だと思います。また、各規制が解除されて、街に賑わいが戻ってきたことも嬉しい限りです。それでも、街中では、ほとんどの人がマスクを着用しています。規制が解除された欧米では、ほとんどの人がマスクを外していました。マスクの着用に関しては、日本と欧米の習慣の差でしょう。また、全ての飲食店や娯楽施設に感染対策が求められていて、新型コロナウイルスに対する戦いは、まだ終わっていないことを実感します。
新規患者の減少は、ワクチン接種率がキーポイントだったのか？
新型コロナウイルスの新規感染者数の減少は、非常に急激でした。減少の一因に、ワクチン接種率の増加が挙げられています。実際２０２１年１月の時点で、イスラエルやイギリスでもワクチン接種率が上昇した際、新規感染者数が急激に減少していました。日本も同様の事が起きたのでしょう。ただし、警戒しなければならないことは、イスラエルもイギリスも再び新規感染者数が増加しているという点です。新型コロナウイルスの変異株デルタ株が蔓延した影響です。しかし、イギリスでは新型コロナウイルスに感染しても、重症化する比率が低く、死亡率も低くなっていると報じられています。一方、イスラエルの場合は死者数も増加し、イギリス程ワクチンの効果は見られませんでした。イスラエルでは３回目のワクチン接種が検討されているようです。
日本でも同じ状況になり、第６波が来ることは確実でしょう。
イギリスやイスラエルと同様に、おそらくは新しい変異株が発生して、日本でも感染の第６波が来ることでしょう。ワクチン接種は重症化率を下げる傾向にありますが、ブレイクスルー感染などと言われているように、新型コロナウイルスの感染自体は防ぐことが出来ません。その結果、変異株が発生してしまうことは、避けられません。来てしまう以上、仕方ありません。第６波を大きくしないことが重要だと思います。これまでと同様に、普段からマスクを着用し、適時手指のアルコール消毒の励行、うがい手洗いの徹底を行いましょう。これまでの感染拡大周期から、第６波は３か月後に来ると予想されています。大体１月辺りに来るでしょう。
新型コロナウイルス治療薬という良い知らせもあります。
日本でも開発され、認可が得られそうですが、新型コロナウイルス治療薬がアメリカのメルク社から発表されました。軽症者向けの飲み薬で、重症化を抑える効果があるそうです。メルク社といえば、バイオ系研究者ならよく知っている会社です。実験用の試薬で大変お世話にもなりました。第６波までに間に合うと良いですね。将来的に、新型コロナウイルス感染症が、普通に風邪と同じレベルで対応できるよう期待しています。
