今年の日本は、非常に暑い夏が続きました。やはり、温室効果ガスによる地球温暖化は気象に大きな影響を与えるのでしょう。来年、再来年も暑い夏になりそうです。ただ、「地球温暖化の原因は温室効果ガス増加ではない」とする意見も時折見かけます。現在の気象現象や平均気温の上昇は、温室効果ガスによる影響を元にしたシミュレーションとほぼ一致しています。だから、地球温暖化と温室効果ガスの増加は無関係とする見方は、かなり減ってきました。それでも、「地球温暖化は、地球が間氷河期に移行している事が原因であり、温室効果ガスは無関係」とする意見をしばしば目にします。残念ながら、現在アメリカの大統領候補であるトランプ元大統領も、「地球温暖化と温室効果ガスは無関係」という意見を述べています。トランプ元大統領が選ばれてしまった場合、あまり良い未来が待っているとは思えません。最近の巨大化しているハリケーンも、地球温暖化の影響です。しかしトランプ元大統領が選ばれてしまった場合、地球温暖化対策を行ってくれるとは思えません。結果として、さらに巨大で強力なハリケーンがアメリカを襲うでしょう。アメリカ国民が適切な判断をしてくれることを願っています。「Make America Great Again」などという計画性も実現性も無い幻想に惑わされない強い意志こそが、アメリカをより強力にするでしょう。
自然な変化による気温変化は、非常になだらかです。
確かに地球の歴史では、気温の上下がありました。過去の地球の気温は、地層を調べることでわかります。例えば、「スノーボールアース」という地球全体が凍結した時代があったそうです。現在の研究では「スノーボールアース」はまだ仮説に過ぎないのですが、過去の地球では激しい気温の上下があったことは、間違いありません。しかし、過去の地球で起きた気温変化はゆっくりとした変化です。それこそ、平均気温が１℃上昇するためには１万年以上必要です。１万年と言えば１００世紀です。１万年前、人類はまだ旧石器時代でした。しかし、地球の平均気温は過去１００年で約０．７６℃上昇しています。この気温上昇が人為的でないという論理には、無理があります。また、過去の地球温暖化も温室効果ガスが強く関与していることが地層の研究で明らかになっています。少なくとも、現在の地球温暖化の原因は、人間の経済活動の結果、大量に放出した温室効果ガスでしょう。
地球温暖化による気温の上昇は、地球上全ての生物に影響します。
